Stewardship

Stewardship at First Presbyterian Church - Huntington, WV

Stewardship is..."The privilege of using ALL God has entrusted to my care in a Godly way."     ~ Unknown

A Steward is a person who has been entrusted with another's resources, and who seeks to manage those resources according to the owner's vision and values.  The Bible tells us that everything we have is a gift from God, and that those gifts are to be used for His glory and to further His kingdom.  Scripture even calls Christians caretakers of God's gifts and truth.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.  I Peter 4:10.

This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.  I Corinthians 4:1.

Stewardship is the basic premise of the Christian faith that recognizes that all we have in life is a generous gift from God.  While we are on Earth, we are stewards of all that God has given us.  Stewardship includes care of one another, the wise use of natural resources, and the management of our God-given personal property and finances.

At First Presbyterian Church of Huntington, we consider Stewardship a responsibility, an act of worship, and evidence of our faith.  We exercise Stewardship individually through giving of time and money and we exercise Stewardship corporately through the wise and generous use of the gifts given by the congregation and friends.

2010 Stewardship Campaign

The theme for the FPC 2010 Stewardship Campaign is "Receive...Rejoice...Return!".  This theme is based on two verses:  (1) Psalm 24:1 which states: "The Earth is the Lord's, and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it" and (2) Chapter 9, Verse 8 in Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians where we read "And God is able to make grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed."

Our God, who is loving and generous beyond our wildest dreams, has given to us in abundance.  Our only response can be that of continuing to give as we have received.  As a result, our lives will be deeply enriched as a heritage of generosity, rejoicefully returning and sharing plentifully is present in our lives and outreach.  "Receive...Rejoice...Return!"

FPC is blessed by God in many ways.  Our Church continues to grow in active membership, attendance and giving and FPC helps support various local, national and international benevolences.

Pledging

If FPC is your church home (member or friend) and would like to make a financial pledge to the 2010 Stewardship Campaign, you can do so by printing the 2010 Stewardship Pledge Card and bringing forward your 2010 pledge to the Sanctuary offering table on Dedication Sunday, November 8, 2009.  In this latter way, by rising from our pews and coming forward with our promises, we demonstrate in our actions what it means to be Christ's people together in response to this common calling.  If you are unable to attend Church on Dedication Sunday, you can drop the completed card in the offering plate on any Sunday or mail the completed card to the Church office.

Time and Talents

We also define Stewardship as gifts of time, talents, energy and volunteer efforts in response to God's love.  FPC members and friends, also may make pledges yearly during the FPC Stewardship Campaign of our time and our talents to the Lord's work.  Each year on Dedication Sunday, a new pledge card of our time and talents may be completed and you may also make a pledge of your time and talents by printing the 2010 Time and Talents Pledge Card and bringing forward your 2010 pledges to the Sanctuary offering table on Dedication Sunday.  If you are unable to attend Church on Dedication Sunday you can drop the completed card in the offering plate on any Sunday or mail the completed card to the Church Office.
