Special Offerings

One Great Hour Of Sharing

Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God’s love with people experiencing need. Our gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives, and work together to strengthen their families and communities. Recognizing that the hope we have in Christ is lived out in our hope for one another, we respond with gifts that help our sisters and brothers around the world find the hope for a brighter future. The One Great Hour of Sharing offering is received on Easter Sunday.

Cents-Ability (formerly Two-Cents-a-Meal)

Cents-Ability began in the 1970s with one Presbyterian woman wanting to make a difference in world hunger. Members are encouraged to set aside two cents for every meal each day and bring their offerings to church on the second Sunday of each month. Seventy-Five per cent of the offering supports the Presbytery of West Virginia’s Hunger Program and twenty-five per cent supports the Cridlin Food Pantry.

Christmas Joy Offering

Presbyterians have long celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ by giving generously to a Christmas season offering. Fifty percent of the receipts to the Christmas Joy Offering are distributed to the Board of Pensions for assistance programs that provide support to retired and active church workers and their spouses and families. The other fifty percent supports Presbyterian-related racial ethnic schools and colleges through the National Ministries Division of the General Assembly Council. The Christmas Joy Offering is received the Sunday before Christmas

Pentecost Offering

A special offering is received on Pentecost Sunday.  In 2007 it was designated to build a church in Peru.

Thanksgiving

Each year during the Thanksgiving season a special offering is taken to support a local or regional mission partner.

Souper Bowl Offering

Each year on SuperBowl Sunday the youth with soup kettles in hand collect a special monetary and canned food offering to support the Cridlin Food Pantry.
