Charlie's Boys

Charlie’s Boys is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church. It’s focus is helping people with home repair and maintenance to keep or make a home WARM, SAFE, and DRY. The work is done without charge for either labor or materials.

Habitat For Humanity

The mission of Habitat is to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for low income people who are living in dangerous or unhealthy substandard housing. This congregation currently provides full funding and volunteers to build one house every three years. FPC also cooperates with other downtown churches to build another Habitat house every three years. As we enter into active partnership with those who need some help in working toward a better life for their family, we take seriously our Lord’s admonition that, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Cridlin Food And Clothing Pantry

The Cridlin Food & Clothing Pantry is a collaboration among the downtown churches coordinated by Christian Associates. In addition to our annual financial support, church members volunteer at the pantry and through out the year and donate food and clothing items. Every year the proceeds of our Souper Bowl offering are donated to the Pantry, along with 25% of our Two-Cents-A-Meal offering.

Information And Referral

Information and Referral serves as the safety net of the system. The staff members are able to access a need or crisis in an individual's life and go within the community to find a solution. First Church members serve with various agencies that help people correct difficult situations.

Harmony House

Harmony House is a multipurpose day shelter serving the homeless population. It provides case management, free primary health care including eye and dental care, mental health and substance abuse counseling and basic need such as showers, personal care items, clothing etc.

Community Christmas Day Dinner

The First Presbyterian Church first established the Christmas Day Dinner for the Homeless in 1993. An elder of First Presbyterian Church was also a board of director member of the Huntington City Mission. He recognized that at that time there was no formal meal served for the missions' special guests on Christmas Day. So, with the Lord's blessing and the generosity of the congregation we began the Christmas Day Dinner for the Homeless. The first year we had 135 volunteers and 120 special guests. In 2003, our eleventh year of providing this service we had 93 volunteers serving meals to 357 guests at our church and delivered 125 meals to shut-ins. From 1993-2003 we have served over 4,225 meals for this mission. Our congregation has supported this mission project with our newest facilities, time, talent, and finances. I am convinced that the Lord has blessed us by giving us this opportunity to serve Him by serving our special guests.

Huntington City Mission

Since 1939, the Huntington City Mission has offered help and hope to tens of thousands of homeless, hungry, and hurting people who seek shelter from the streets. Their comprehensive services meet the immediate needs of the people who come for meals, a safe place to sleep for the night, a hot shower, and clean clothes for the next day. The one thing that distinguishes the Mission from other emergency shelters is their focus on spirituality and the personal testimony by the compassionate staff that show how faith in God can improve lives of people in need.

Presbyterian Campus Ministry

Presbyterian Campus Ministry, which provides Christian outreach and nurture for students, faculty and staff at Marshall University, has been acclaimed as outstanding by our national church magazine, Presbyterians Today. Its highly successful student group, PROWL (People Reaching Out With Love), provides fellowship, study, discussion groups, counseling, retreats, and work camps. In turn, PROWL students reach our with love to many groups in our region, including conducting worship services in many regional churches. Not surprisingly, 38 PROWL students have gone on to seminary after graduating from Marshall and many other alumni are active and productive members of their own congregations. This church provides generous financial support for Marshall campus ministry and many members of the congregation participate actively in various aspects of the ministry.
